Mark Turner worked in Diving Medicine in the Royal Navy at the Institute of Naval Medicine and then at the Submarine Escape Training Tank at HMS Dolphin. He became a Ships Diving Officer and a Submarine Escape Instructor, and undertook a submarine escape from HMS Oracle in Loch Fyne from 300 feet.

He subsequently trained in Cardiology and specialises in Congenital and Structural Cardiology, including performing over one thousand PFO closures. He completed a PhD on cell biology in Cardiff, and now publishes mainly in the field of interventional cardiology and diving medicine.

He is current Chairman of UKDMC and regularly sees divers in both NHS and private clinics, and undertakes Sports Diving and HSE medicals. He has attended 3 SPUMS conferences and joined a National Geographic Pristine Seas Expedition to the Azores in 2018.
